BlueBet Slapped with Hefty Fine for Advertising Near Children

Di Camila "Crimson" Phelps

An Australian wagering firm, BlueBet, was recently hit with a substantial $50,000 penalty for prominently displaying its gaming promotions in locations popular with youths. It appears they overlooked the fundamental principle that wagering and minors are a dangerous combination! The Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission (VGCCC) took decisive action following public disapproval of the advertisements, which were unavoidable in areas like Point Cook and Laverton during August and September 2022.

The presiding official dismissed BlueBet’s claim of ignorance regarding their audience, particularly given their specific targeting of young males. Although they avoided a criminal mark this instance, the message was unambiguous: maintain distance between your betting promotions and our children! The VGCCC emphasized unequivocally that gambling advertisements are inappropriate in areas accessible to susceptible individuals, especially children.

Justice Thomas contemplated severely punishing BlueBet but opted for a more merciful approach. Their positive demeanor and collaboration with the Victorian Gambling Commission (VGCCC) seemingly earned them some grace. BlueBet also pledged to rectify their actions and avert similar situations in the future.

They have commenced implementing adjustments and are maintaining close communication with the VGCCC to ensure such an event doesn’t reoccur.

Intriguingly, BlueBet recently revealed their intention to acquire Betr. It appears they aim to broaden their reach and secure a larger portion of the market.
