Allwyn Officially Secures Fourth UK National Lottery License

The fourth UK National Lottery license has been officially awarded to Allwyn, concluding legal disputes with IGT.

This allows Allwyn to assume control in February 2024, with a decade-long license period. Camelot, the existing operator, contested the procedure after Allwyn was first chosen as the preferred applicant for the fourth license (Camelot possesses the initial three). In an effort to maintain control of the UK lottery, Camelot, along with its technological partner IGT, pursued legal action against both Allwyn and the Gambling Commission.

Earlier this month, however, Camelot and IGT withdrew their legal challenge, allowing Allwyn to proceed. Camelot and IGT are still pursuing over £600 million ($685 million) in compensation from the Gambling Commission.

Justin King, Allwyn’s Chairman, stated: “The award today signifies a new beginning for the National Lottery. We have ambitious goals for this significant and cherished organization, most notably increasing fundraising for worthy causes nationwide, enhancing the player experience with cutting-edge technology, and promoting responsible participation.”

David Craven, CEO of Allwyn, added: “This occasion represents a turning point for the National Lottery.”

A fresh age of potential is emerging. Our bold visions to revolutionize the lottery are solidifying at our latest central office in Watford.

To genuinely pioneer and guide the realm of nationwide lotteries, we need to grasp this juncture and expand upon the prospects ahead. Our primary focus is to ethically enlarge the enterprise, enabling us to donate even greater sums to worthy endeavors throughout the nation. We’re delighted to greet the current Camelot staff in Watford to accompany us on this exhilarating expedition.

Andrew Rhodes, Director General of the Gaming Commission, conveyed his viewpoint: “Subsequent to a rigorous contest and legal proceedings settling a postponement of the procedure, we are gratified to have officially granted the fourth National Lottery permit to Allwyn. We anticipate collaborating with all participants to guarantee a seamless and proficient transition.”
