BetMGM Fined for Accepting Bets on Unauthorized Boxing Match

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) has levied a fine against Mountainview Thoroughbred Racing Association and BetMGM for taking wagers on a sporting event that was not authorized.

The punishment was confirmed after the board approved a settlement agreement submitted by the Office of Enforcement Counsel (OEC).

The agreement was the result of discussions between the OEC and Mountainview Thoroughbred Racing Association, the operator of Hollywood Casino at Morgantown in Berks County, and its sports betting partner BetMGM.

BetMGM was fined $7,500 for accepting and paying out bets on the boxing match between Victor Belfort and Evander Holyfield on September 11, 2021. The PGCB previously declared that β€œall operators have been clearly informed that betting on this event is not permitted.”

The regulatory body stated that BetMGM accepted a total of 76 wagers.

Last month, the PGCB penalized Parx Casino $10,000 for allowing an individual of 18 years to enter the casino and participate in gambling at a table.

The regulatory body stated that casino staff permitted the individual to enter the casino floor and place bets. This violated Pennsylvania law, which mandates that players must be at least 21 years of age to legally enter the casino floor and gamble.

The regulatory agency, the OEC, has levied a penalty on Greenwood Gaming and Entertainment, the operator of the gambling establishment.
