The UK Gaming Commission has declared the selection of Andrew Rhodes as the interim leader of the organization for a period of 18 months, taking over from Neil McArthur.

Rhodes (pictured) brings a wide range of experience from both the public and private sectors to this vital position, joining the Commission.

Rhodes has held high-ranking positions at the Department for Work and Pensions and the DVLA, and most recently served as Registrar and Chief Operating Officer at Swansea University.

Rhodes stated: “The Gambling Commission is one of the most recognized and esteemed regulatory bodies globally, and I am privileged to be joining the team at this crucial juncture.

“Shielding the public and players from gambling-related harm will remain a top priority of our efforts, and I eagerly anticipate engaging with individuals from across the industry and those with personal experience to comprehend the challenges and prospects ahead.”

Rhodes assumes the role from Neil McArthur, who stepped down earlier this year.

Throughout MacArthur’s time in office, the UK’s gambling overseer experienced notable transformations. These included prohibiting the use of credit cards for wagering, implementing substantial modifications to online slot game mechanics, and the government’s comprehensive review of the Gambling Act last year.

Bill Moyes, the Gambling Commission’s Head, stated: “Andrew possesses a solid history of success in both the private and public sectors, bringing strong leadership and innovative thinking.

“I am certain that he will be an exceptional addition to the Commission, particularly in this period when gambling rules and operators are under close examination. I anticipate collaborating closely with Andrew as I relinquish my responsibilities to the new Head in September.”

The regulatory body will continue its search for a permanent replacement for MacArthur while Rhodes serves as CEO for the next 18 months.
